"Humans Without Warning"
A group of 50 paintings, acrylic/mixed media and collage on paper, 50" x 38", 2021-23.

“Humans Without Warning” were begun in winter 2021 and completed in 2023. They are a post-Covid vaccine imaginary of our shared experience in the aftermath of the pandemic. The figures depicted are not intended to be illustrative of any specific persons or events. I see them as metaphors that embody vulnerabilities that emerged so apparently during those years, and especially of the nation’s subsequent descent into the maelstrom of social and political disunity that still threatens today (Feb. 2024). In making these paintings I tried to be mindful of the many losses so many have endured, and the weary workaday trudge that might find us stumbling into numbness and resentment.
